CLINICAL SUPERVISION ONLINE UK
As I work towards completing my Diploma in Clinical Supervision, I am currently taking on clinical supervision clients (qualified trainee and student therapists and counsellors) to fulfil my clinical supervision training hours. I offer 1:1 and group supervision with a maximum of 2/3 supervisees per group. My services are tailored to therapists working with adults.
WHAT IS CLINICAL SUPERVISION?
Clinical supervision is an essential ongoing reflective professional development process that fosters a structured and supportive relationship between a supervisor and a supervisee.
The primary goal of clinical supervision is to improve the quality of services provided to clients by promoting the professional growth and development of the supervisee. This is achieved through the supervisor’s guidance, feedback, and support, enabling the supervisee to reflect on their practice, develop their skills, and address any challenges they may encounter. Additionally, the supervisor assists the supervisee in navigating ethical and legal considerations, as well as providing emotional support and promoting self-care.
The role of a clinical supervisor varies.
As a mentor, the supervisor provides support and guidance, helping supervisees to navigate their professional journey and develop their skills. This mentorship role often involves sharing knowledge, offering career advice, and aiding in the supervisee’s professional development.
As an evaluator, the supervisor assesses the supervisee’s performance, providing feedback and identifying areas for improvement. This evaluative function is critical for maintaining high standards of care and for the ongoing development of the supervisee’s competencies.
As a supporter, the clinical supervisor offers emotional and psychological support, helping supervisees manage stress and overcome professional challenges. This supportive role is essential for maintaining the well-being of healthcare professionals, which in turn affects the quality of care provided to patients.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF CLINICAL SUPERVISION?
- Ensure integrity of therapeutic services and safeguard clients’ well-being
- Establish a strong supervisee-supervisor relationship
- Take professional responsibility for client safety and support supervisee
- Allows supervisors to witness clinical skills and interactions and clarify therapy partnerships at overt and covert levels
- Facilitate growth and nurture the supervisee’s unique style
- Monitor supervisee performance and act as the profession’s gatekeeper
- Reflect on and review all aspects of practice, including individual cases
- Review, change, or adapt practice to improve effectiveness
- Stay up to date with professional developments and work within ethical boundaries
- Identify training and professional development needs
- Manage the impact of client trauma on the mental health and well-being of the supervisee and practise self-care
- Contain work with clients by taking into account where the supervisee’s issues might intrude on their work with clients
- Utilise supervision methods for continuous improvement and learning
- Provide immediate, specific feedback for continuous improvement
- Promote critical thinking and alternative approaches through detailed case examination
- Collaboratively learn, track progress, and set clear goals for supervision

MY APPROACH:
I believe in a comprehensive and multi-dimensional approach to clinical supervision, drawing from various theories and techniques such as person-centred, psychodynamic, integrative, solution-focused, mind-body, energy, inner child, and hypno-psychotherapeutic theories.
My priority is to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment for supervisees to explore and develop, encouraging them to share deeper issues and areas of difficulty in their clinical practice. I emphasise positive behaviour over faults to boost self-confidence, foster skill development and promote collaboration, client-centeredness, and direction in supervision sessions to enhance growth and learning.
I work with a holistic perspective, incorporating developmental, resourcing, qualitative (Hawkins model), formative, restorative, normative (Proctor model), educational, supportive, and managerial (Kadushin model), and the Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision.
