ENERGY PSYCHOTHERAPY ONLINE
Energy Psychotherapy integrates conventional psychotherapy methods with Eastern medicine practices like acupuncture and acupressure. It focuses on emotional and mental well-being, delving deeper to address disruptions in the body’s energy system resulting from emotional disturbances and trauma, in addition to addressing similar issues as traditional psychotherapy.
Traditional Psychotherapy is a form of therapy that helps individuals with mental health issues, emotional and physical distress, trauma-related issues, negative behaviours, outdated beliefs, and patterns. It aims to help clients understand, heal, and integrate deep-seated problems that cause patterns in their lives. Through this process, clients may discover new ways to heal themselves so that these behaviours or emotions no longer define them. Psychotherapy works with the client in the present and addresses past influences, including severe emotional trauma, insufficient parenting, or other problems.
Energy Psychotherapy restores balance to the body’s energy system by tapping on specific acupuncture points, for example, while focusing on a particular issue or problem, thereby addressing the root cause of issues. It has been known to effectively treat various conditions like anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, addiction, phobias, and physical symptoms like chronic pain, digestive problems, and headaches. It can be used as a standalone or complementary therapy, particularly for those who have not responded well to traditional treatments or medications. Overall, energy psychotherapy aims to restore balance in the body, improving emotional, mental, and physical well-being.
ENERGY PSYCHOTHERAPY BACKGROUND INTRODUCTION:
Energy Psychotherapy is a form of therapy that combines traditional Western psychological theory (Energy Psychology) with Eastern medical theory and focuses on the body’s electrical energies and energy fields. It is based on the principle that the body and mind are interconnected and that energy flows throughout the body. It aims to treat psychological and mental health conditions by addressing the body’s energy systems.
WHAT THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS IS ENERGY PSYCHOLOGY BASED ON?
There are several theories behind how Energy Psychology works:
- The human energy field (bio-field/aura) theory is one of Energy Psychology’s most commonly used models, suggesting that the body is surrounded and permeated by an energy field (aura) and that this field can be accessed to promote healing.
- Many of the principles of Energy Psychology can be traced back to ancient practices such as acupuncture and acupressure. These practices are based on the idea that energy flows through the body along specific pathways – meridians and chakras. Each chakra is associated with particular emotions and physical functions, and blockages in these chakras can result in related emotional and physical problems.
- Another theory is that the body’s energy system is connected to the brain and nervous system. By working with the energy system, a therapist can help the brain and nervous system function more effectively, leading to improved emotional, psychological and physical health.
- Another theory is that disruptions in the body’s energy system can cause emotional and psychological issues. A therapist can help clients overcome emotional and psychological problems by working with these energy disruptions.
Energy Psychology techniques are another essential aspect of Energy Psychotherapy. These techniques aim to promote dialogue, empathy, and mindfulness and help patients set goals and develop strategies to address current problems.
This approach to therapy is gaining popularity as more people seek alternative methods of healing and self-improvement.
ENERGY PSYCHOLOGY TECHNIQUES
There are many different forms of Energy Psychology methods that can be incorporated into psychotherapy to create Energy Psychotherapy. These include, and are not limited to:
- Meridian Tapping Techniques involve tapping on specific body points to release negative emotions, reduce anxiety, phobias and other emotional issues and bring the energy system back into balance. The most well-known meridian tapping techniques are the emotional freedom technique (EFT), thought field therapy (TFT), and tapas acupressure technique (TAT).
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a technique that involves guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories and reduce the emotional distress associated with them while focusing on a traumatic memory or emotion. This technique is often used to treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other trauma-related disorders.
- Chakra Balancing Techniques aim to restore balance to the energy centres, or the seven chakras in the body. Some examples of chakra balancing techniques include Advanced Integrative Therapy (AIT) and Heart Assisted Therapy (HAT).
Energy Psychology techniques are not based on any religious belief, and one does not need to have any particular belief about energy systems to benefit from them. It is best to approach these techniques with an open mind and see if they work for you. While the exact mechanisms behind Energy Psychology are not fully understood, research suggests that they may help regulate the body’s stress response, promote relaxation, and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.
As a practitioner of Energy Psychotherapy, I am often asked about the research behind this approach. Energy Psychology methods now have a growing scientific foundation, with over 50 research studies, including random controlled trials, completed to date (RCTs). Energy Psychology and Energy Psychotherapy continue to evolve, and the specific mechanisms contributing to their effectiveness are still being explored. WHAT IS ENERGY PSYCHOTHERAPY?
Energy Psychotherapy is the integration and application of clinical Energy Psychology methods into traditional psychotherapy and, therefore, refers to the methods of assessing and treating psychological problems that use bioenergy systems.
Energy Psychotherapy is an effective and efficient approach that addresses a problem’s underlying energetic aspects. It is a brief, active, and structured therapy that focuses on thoughts, feelings, and emotions while simultaneously activating the body’s bio-energy system through various techniques. These techniques help to eliminate deeply encoded patterns and the underlying negative core beliefs that may be causing blockages.
The therapy utilises attunement, manual muscle testing, and techniques that stimulate the body at discrete locations by holding or tapping, assuming specified body postures and movements, visualisation, and affirmations. This approach emphasises the connection between bioenergy, consciousness, thought, intentionality, and spirituality. It works simultaneously with the mind and body to heal blockages caused by traumatic experiences.
Cognitive interventions such as focused awareness, mindfulness, imaginal exposure to traumatic memories, cognitive reframing, and stimulation of one or more human bio-energy systems, such as meridians, chakras, and bio-fields, are also employed. Combining attunement and stimulation can facilitate rapid positive change and optimal psychotherapeutic outcomes without causing excessive emotional distress or abreaction.
Energy Psychotherapy draws from other types of therapy, such as psychoanalytic and humanistic therapies, family therapy, and exposure therapy. The therapeutic relationship and therapeutic alliance are also crucial in energy psychotherapy, as they help to establish trust and communication between the therapist and the client. The approach also draws on various approaches, including traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and neuro-linguistic programming (NLP).
While Energy Psychotherapy is not yet widely accepted in mainstream medicine, growing evidence suggests that it may be an effective treatment for a variety of mental health conditions. It is important to note that Energy Psychotherapy is not a substitute for traditional psychotherapy and should be used as a complementary treatment approach.
Suppose you are interested in exploring Energy Psychotherapy as a treatment option. In that case, it is important to seek out and work with a qualified mental health professional trained in Energy Psychotherapy with experience in this area..
HOW DOES ENERGY PSYCHOTHERAPY WORK?
Energy Psychotherapy aims to intervene strategically and methodically with human energy fields, such as chakras, meridians, the biofield, and subtler systems of the body, like neuroception. Practitioners view symptoms as systemic, interactive bio-energetic patterns that involve constant complex communication among neurobiological processes, electrophysiology, consciousness, and bioenergy systems.
Energy Practitioners believe that emotional disturbances and trauma can manifest as disruptions in the body’s energy field. Emotional distress, traumatic experiences and internal conflicts can all be understood as patterns of information (images, memories, thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and sensory experiences) that are frozen in time within the body-mind-energy system and can negatively impact how we experience the world, regulate emotions, and relate to other people. Energy Psychotherapy can help to gently release these patterns and emotional blockages in the body-mind-energy system, thereby restoring balance to the body’s energy systems and promoting healing.
Energy Psychotherapy is a complementary, holistic treatment approach that uses techniques such as EMDR, EFT, Chakra, and energy healing to clear deeply rooted energetic patterns laid down during distressing or traumatic events, emotional and energetic residues of trauma at a cellular level, reprogramming neural pathways in life-affirming ways, and allowing the body and subtle bodies to heal and rebalance. A technique called muscle testing, derived from the field of applied kinesiology, is often used to guide the work and provide immediate feedback on how the body’s energy system responds. Muscle testing is a technique used to tap into the inherent wisdom of our mind-body-energy system, which is often unconscious.
Energy Psychotherapy is particularly useful for trauma-affected individuals, as it helps to release stored energy and emotions, increasing resilience and stress coping. Trauma is defined as the harm caused to an individual’s psyche due to a highly distressing event, which can be a one-time occurrence or a persistent one. The individual’s ability to cope, understand, and process the experience is entirely overwhelmed.
The mind-body systems are severely compromised, causing the event or events and everything associated with it to get jumbled, entangled, and stuck. Trauma can reoccur until it is resolved, either through reliving the original traumatic event or experiencing psychosomatic symptoms such as anxiety, panic attacks, and insomnia. When working with trauma, working with the body alongside relational talking therapy is essential.
Energy Psychotherapy uses a unique process to gently untangle the threads, safely unpack them, resolve each piece of this complex puzzle, and allow the body and subtle bodies to process, heal, release emotions, and rebalance the energy system. The therapy is gentle and does not require reliving traumatic memories. Accessing difficult-to-articulate emotions is especially helpful in treating trauma in utero and pre-verbal stages, as well as age-related trauma issues addressing the mental, emotional, physical, and energetic body systems, which most therapies do not entirely address at this level. It aims to reduce painful emotions, process traumatic events, shift limiting beliefs, and live more fully.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ENERGY PSYCHOTHERAPY?
Energy Psychotherapy is a collaborative and empowering approach that uses self-help energy methods to help clients cope with and regulate the effects of triggering and improve physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being by removing the impact and residual trauma from the body, particularly with trauma and PTSD symptoms, therefore promoting the free flow of energy throughout the body.
Energy Psychotherapy is a holistic approach that addresses mental, emotional, physical, and energetic body systems, offering non-invasive, safe treatment for various health conditions like depression, anxiety, chronic pain, fatigue and all forms of trauma.
As an Energy Psychotherapist, I have witnessed and experienced the transformative benefits this approach can bring to individuals to improve their mental health and well-being.
BENEFITS OF ENERGY PSYCHOTHERAPY :

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PSYCHOTHERAPY AND ENERGY PSYCHOTHERAPY?
Traditional Psychotherapy involves talking with a trained mental health professional to understand and address emotional and mental health issues. This therapy typically involves exploring thoughts, feelings, and behaviours to improve overall well-being and functioning – only the mind and emotional system get activated.
Energy psychotherapy, on the other hand, is a type of therapy that combines traditional psychotherapy techniques with the principles of energy medicine.
Energy psychotherapy refers to methods for assessing and treating psychological problems that use bioenergy systems (meridians, the aura and chakras). In Energy Psychotherapy, the mind, body, emotional and energy systems are all activated, which can lead to significant trauma resolution in a relatively short period without causing excessive emotional distress or abreaction.
While both psychotherapy and energy psychotherapy aim to improve emotional and mental health, their approach and techniques differ. Psychotherapy focuses on exploring and addressing thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. In contrast, energy psychotherapy aims to correct disruptions in the body’s energy system that leads to mental, emotional, and physical dysfunction.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN ENERGY PSYCHOTHERAPY TREATMENT?
The first consultation (1 hour) is an initial assessment to determine if the therapist is right for you. During this session, the therapist evaluates their skills and expertise to address your specific needs. If the therapist feels that another professional may be better suited to assist you, they will provide appropriate referrals.
Additionally, the consultation allows the therapist to gather essential information about the reasons for seeking therapy, your history related to the issues, any pertinent medical information, and other relevant details. During this session, the Therapist will discuss your goals, outcomes, length and frequency of sessions and whether therapy is likely to be short or long-term.
Finally, the consultation is an opportunity for both the client and the therapist to assess if they are a good fit and can form a therapeutic relationship for deeper work.
Energy Psychotherapy sessions can be one hour, 1.5 hours or two hours, weekly or fortnightly.
During the first few sessions, we will initially work on reducing distress, anxiety, dissociation, and overwhelm levels and gently introduce you to energy balance techniques. You can use these outside of the sessions to aid your progress.
The essential requirement is to bring at least 1 litre of water to each session – don’t worry, you probably won’t need to drink it all. As the body is mostly water, water is a prerequisite to balancing your energy systems and ensuring we can align with your balanced energy systems and be guided by your body’s inner wisdom.
During an Energy Psychotherapy session, the therapist and patient work together to identify and release stored energy and emotions from the body. The therapist may use techniques such as EMDR, EFT, Chakra, and energy healing to clear deeply rooted energetic patterns laid down during traumatic events. The therapy is gentle and does not require the patient to relive traumatic memories. Instead, the therapist helps the patient gently untangle the threads, safely unpacking them, resolving each piece of this complex puzzle, allowing the body and subtle bodies to process, heal, release the emotions, and rebalance the energy system.
The therapist-patient relationship is critical, and the therapist must establish a safe and collaborative environment where patients feel comfortable expressing their emotions. The therapist may also work with the patient to develop specific tasks to help them release stored energy and emotions from the body. The therapist may also work with the patient to develop coping mechanisms and self-care strategies to help them manage their emotions and maintain their progress outside therapy.
It’s important to note that Energy Psychotherapy is a complementary treatment approach, not a substitute for traditional psychotherapy. It’s crucial to seek out a qualified and trained practitioner if you’re interested in exploring energy psychotherapy for trauma-related issues.
HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO BE IN THERAPY?
The length and frequency of psychotherapy sessions can differ depending on the individual’s needs and goals. Sessions may be scheduled weekly or biweekly. Because each person is unique and comes into treatment at different stages of healing, development, and so on, you should expect a minimum of six sessions (once a week at first). However, depending on the nature of the issues you wish to address, this can range from six sessions to 1-2 years.
We will periodically review your goals, make any necessary adjustments, and ensure we work within a reasonable time frame. However, this can change as we uncover more profound layers of healing that were not visible during the consultation session.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
Please remember that certain emotional and mental health conditions may limit some techniques and, in general, therapy. An assessment would determine the best way to work with the client and their needs, and it could entail the participation of other mental health practitioners. If psychotherapeutic techniques are ineffective for psychotic illness or severe depression, alternative methods may be required. During the initial consultation, this will be discussed with you.
DISCLAIMER:
Please remember that Energy Psychotherapy is not a magic wand or an instant cure, and it makes no such claims, even though significant shifts may occur. Because every client is unique, it may work for some and not for others.
ENERGY PSYCHOTHERAPY WITH ME:
My journey started as a Reiki Practitioner over 26 years ago, working with clients holistically to balance their energy systems. I have always been curious about how the mind connects with this and have been fortunate to train and qualify as a psychotherapist and hypnotherapist in 2009 (Hypno-Psychotherapist). At the same time, I became an Energy Coach, enabling me to incorporate my healing experience with my coaching to bring mind, body and energy healing to work together. I spent three years as an Energy Coach coaching Corporate clients at Shirlaws UK. Since then, my therapeutic practice has increased and become my main focus, with clients increasingly presenting with childhood-related issues, deep-rooted issues, and other related trauma.
Energy psychotherapy found me rather serendipitously, like all the therapies I offer. However, I had not heard of it or been aware that it existed other than EFT, which did not work for me. Something powerful pulled me into doing the Energy Psychotherapy training, and I have not looked back since, personally and professionally. Looking back now, I realise that the EFT I used on myself was not Clinical EFT; therefore, it never truly worked for me. Clinical EFT, used in Energy Psychotherapy, is designed to help access deeper roots and aids in healing and complete release of the core issues, which ultimately continue to repeat.
My approach to therapy is holistic, transformative, and multidimensional, incorporating integrative and psychodynamic elements. I believe in outcome-focused psychotherapy, which emphasises setting specific goals for treatment and regularly monitoring progress towards those goals. This approach involves collaborating with clients to understand their hopes and develop a plan to achieve those goals, using various techniques and interventions to assist them while focusing on achieving specific outcomes.
In addition, I integrate elements from different schools of psychotherapy, such as cognitive-behavioural, humanistic, and psychodynamic approaches, to address the emotional, behavioural, and cognitive aspects of my clients’ needs. This integrative approach provides a comprehensive and flexible framework that can be adapted to each client’s unique circumstances and preferences, allowing for a more personalised and effective therapeutic experience.
Furthermore, I also incorporate psychodynamic principles into my practice, which focuses on exploring the unconscious mind and its influence on a person’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. This approach, rooted in the theories of Sigmund Freud, emphasises the role of early childhood experiences and the dynamics of interpersonal relationships in shaping an individual’s psychological functioning. By bringing unconscious conflicts and patterns to the surface, psychodynamic therapy aims to promote greater self-awareness and a deeper understanding of the underlying factors contributing to the client’s difficulties.

TESTIMONIALS:
“I found Karyn for online Energy Psychotherapy because I suffered from severe dissociation, paranoia, and PTSD symptoms.” I had tried other types of therapy over the years, but they had never completely removed the root cause. I could already feel my stress levels lowering after the first session. I found the tools and work to be very soothing, and it allowed me to calm my own system down in between sessions, which was extremely beneficial. After only a few sessions, I was able to make life-changing decisions and corrections, and I felt calmer and more connected to what was best for me. Which is a much better state of being than I was in before. I never imagined it would happen. Thank you.” Anonymous London *
