The Unmasked Brain: Your Neuro-Menopause Rebirth
Supporting the Unmasked Brain Through Hormonal, Endocrine & Life Transitions
Neuro-somatic Integrated therapy for Menopause rebirth
I support neurodivergent women navigating the “Great Unmasking“ of perimenopause and menopause. Through a sophisticated integration of neuro-hormonal education, somatic recalibration, and deep identity work, we move past traditional pathologising models. This is a specialised therapeutic space for those ready to move beyond mere symptom management and into true somatic and energetic resolution.
Together, we transition from the exhaustion of burnout toward a state of true Sensory Autonomy.
- Three Decades of Transformative Expertise: A high-level synthesis of holistic energy medicine, endocrine awareness, and clinical science, addressing the deeper physiological layers that traditional talk therapy often overlooks.
- UKCP-Accredited Depth: Professional clinical safety backed by twenty years of psychotherapeutic experience, ensuring the highest standards of care within a transpersonal framework.
- Somatic-Energetic Framework: A sophisticated approach to settling and translating a highly sensitive nervous system through a compassionate, neuro-somatic lens.
“When the decline in oestrogen makes “masking” unsustainable, we don’t attempt to refit
your old coping mechanism; we facilitate your evolution.”
“This isn’t a breakdown.
It’s the emergence of your most authentic self.”
“Formal diagnosis is never required. Self-identification and high suspicion of Autism, ADHD, or AuDHD
are fully recognised and welcomed here.”
IS THIS YOU?
- Do you feel like you are “losing your mind,” yet your GP says your blood work is normal?
- You are likely in the right place if you feel raw, exposed, and vulnerable for no apparent reason. It feels as though the “shields” you’ve used for decades have suddenly vanished.
- Feeling constantly ‘on’ but getting nowhere.
For the neurodivergent woman (ADHD, Autistic, or HSP), hormonal transitions act as
“THE GREAT UNMASKING”
As oestrogen drops, the dopamine levels follow, and the coping mechanisms you’ve used to “fit in” begin to crumble.
“You aren’t broken; you are unmasking overnight.”
In this space, I will never ask you to ‘fix’ your neurodivergence or ‘mask’ for my comfort.
Your stims, your special interests, and your unique processing style are the foundation of our work, not the problem.
Is This Your Season of Life?
This work is specifically designed for the unique architecture of the neurodivergent brain in transition. You may find yourself in one (or many) of these profiles:
- The “Late Discovered”: You spent decades believing you were “just sensitive.” Now, as the hormonal buffer thins, you are navigating your neurodivergence for the first time.
- The Perimenopausal Professional: You have historically been “high-flying,” but executive dysfunction now makes daily tasks feel insurmountable. You feel like an imposter in a life you built yourself.
- The “Orphaned” Self: You feel as though your competent, rational self has been replaced by a vulnerable, sensory-overloaded system that feels raw and unprotected.
- The Burnout Survivor: You’ve been told it’s “just depression,” but you know it’s a deeper systemic collapse. The old ways of functioning are gone, and you require a specialist map to rebuild.
- The “Unsure” & Self-Identified: You do not need a formal diagnosis. Your lived experience and self-knowledge are valid starting points for clinical work.
If you are reading this and feeling the “Shame Spiral,” please hear this: You are not losing your mind.
You are a sensitive system navigating a profound biological transition.
“You don’t have to do it alone.
Going through a rebirth has the same pressure and intensity as being born through the birth canal”
The Intersection of Neurodivergence and Menopause: A Clinical Recalibration
For the neurodivergent woman, perimenopause is often a systemic crisis. As oestrogen levels decline, the neurochemical balance that previously allowed you to “mask” or manage ADHD and Autistic traits begins to shift.
What was once manageable becomes overwhelming. You aren’t failing—you are experiencing a profound neurobiological shift. My work focuses on bridging the gap between your changing biology and your psychological well-being.
The Root Cause: Why the “Mask” Fails Now
This is not “just” perimenopause. It is perimenopause with a twist—a deeper layer where the drop in oestrogen interacts with your unique brain wiring.
For the neurodivergent brain, oestrogen is a key driver of dopamine and serotonin. When these levels fluctuate and fall, your neurodivergent traits don’t just “show up”; they amplify. As this “Dopamine Drought” takes hold, the cognitive energy required to keep the “Orphaned Self” suppressed—what we call masking—runs out.
The veil thins, and your authentic self demands to be seen. If you feel like you are “losing your grip,” please know: you aren’t broken. You are responding exactly as a sensitive nervous system should to an overwhelming season of biological change.
The Impact: A Systemic Recalibration
I believe the intersection of perimenopause and neurodivergence lives in the nervous system. You may recognise yourself in the way this transition ripples across these four key areas:
1. Cognitive & Executive Erosion
- Executive Dysfunction: Brain fog so thick that opening an email feels like climbing a mountain.
- The Cognitive Slide: A genuine fear that your abilities are slipping away or that you are experiencing early-onset dementia.
- Treatment Resistance: Finding that standard “anxiety” treatments provide no relief because they don’t address your specific neurochemistry with hormonal anxiety waves.
2. The “Orphaned” Identity:
- The “Orphaned” Self: A deep, unsettling feeling that the “competent version” of you has left the building. You may feel a mounting sense of terror now that the neurodivergent girl you had to leave behind to survive a neurotypical world is back to stay.
- The Shame Spiral: Feeling like a failure because the coping mechanisms that used to “work” no longer make sense.
- Chronic Vulnerability: Your emotional skin has thinned, leaving you feeling raw, unprotected, and unsure of who you are as your mask begins to crack. Presenting with an irrational fear of going out and doing the things you never thought about before.
3. Sensory & Somatic Burn
- Sensory Burn: Noise, light, and touch that never used to bother you have suddenly become unbearable.
- The “Electrified” System: A nervous system that feels like it’s on fire or “static” that won’t turn off.
- Somatic Burnout: Deep, systemic exhaustion that requires radical rest to survive the day.
- The Sleep-Stress Loop: Insomnia that isn’t just “trouble sleeping,” but a hyper-aroused nervous system that refuses to power down.
4. Social & Relational Withdrawal
- The Loss of the “People Pleaser”: Finding it impossible to tolerate social niceties or “small talk” you used to endure.
- Perimenopausal Rage: White-hot anger that acts as a protective boundary, breaking through years of suppression.
- Isolation: A desperate need to retreat because the world feels too loud, too fast, and too demanding, leaving you feeling too vulnerable to be out in it.
- Relationship Strain: Feeling profoundly misunderstood by those closest to you, who don’t understand why you “can’t just keep going” as the person you used to be.
Is your situation more complex? If you are navigating the intersection
of Narcissistic Abuse, Neurodivergence, and Physical Burnout,
a standard track may not be enough. Explore the Intertwined Container here
Neuro-Hormonal Shift Support: A Clinical Recalibration
My Clinical Framework: The Path to Sensory Autonomy
Before we dive deep, here is the high-level roadmap of our work together:
1. Neuro-Hormonal psycho-education: Demystifying the “why.” We map how declining oestrogen impacts your dopamine and serotonin, removing the shame of “not coping” through biological self-compassion.
2. Somatic Recalibration & Sensory Safety: Moving from “High Alert” to “Sensory Autonomy.” We use energy medicine to support the nervous system and manage the environment, helping break the cycle of meltdowns and shutdowns.
3. Identity Integration & The “Great Unmasking”: The psychological rebirth. We grieve the “old self” and intentionally build a life that honours your authentic, neurodivergent needs.
The Deep Dive: The Three Stages of Support
View here
1. The Biological Foundation: Neuro-Chemistry & Education (The “Why”)
We bridge the gap between psychotherapy and endocrinology. By understanding how the “Dopamine Drought” of perimenopause amplifies your specific traits, we move away from the “shame” of failing and toward radical self-acceptance.
- The Unmasking Process: We explore how the drop in oestrogen has “thinned the veil,” process the grief of the “functional version” of you, and sit with the anger that arises when the masks stop working.
- Neuro-Support & HRT: We build a toolkit of neuro-affirming strategies that actually work for your brain—no neurotypical “hacks,” just compassionate, effective ways to manage energy and focus.
- Workplace & Lifestyle Recalibration: We examine your daily rhythms and professional environment through the lens of your evolving biology, designing a life that nourishes your nervous system rather than depleting it.
2. The Somatic Foundation: Energy Psychotherapy & Regulation (The “How”)
A neurodivergent nervous system in perimenopause is often in a state of “High Alert” or “Static.” We use
- Neuro-Somatic Energy Medicine (Clinical EFT and AIT): To bypass the mind’s “noise” and work directly with the body’s electrical system.
- Soothe the “Sensory Burn”: We aim to physically reduce the static of sensory overwhelm and release the cumulative over-stimulation from decades of masking, helping you reclaim Sensory Autonomy.
- Regulate the “Hormonal Storm”: We calm the “biological noise” and the “Progesterone Rage” by addressing underlying energetic triggers, helping your autonomic nervous system find its way back to a baseline of calm.
- Neutralise the “Neurodivergent Tax”: We clear the energetic charge of shame, self-criticism, and the “shame-spiral” associated with trying to function in a neurotypical way.
3. The Identity Foundation: Unmasking & Rebirth (The “Who”)
This is the sacred work of integrating the “Orphaned Self”—the neurodivergent traits you were forced to suppress—into a coherent, authentic identity.
- Neurological Reconciliation: Using tools inspired by psychodynamic, somatic, and Inner Child healing, we connect with the parts of you you hid away to survive. By re-parenting the “Orphaned Child” within, she no longer has to scream through burnout to be heard.
- Breakthrough, Not Breakdown: We help you differentiate between who you were told to be and who you actually are. What feels like a mental breakdown is often a breakthrough into a more integrated, empowered version of yourself.
- Hormonal Rebirth: Perimenopause is a “Great Unmasking.” We journey together to ensure you emerge from this transition with a new map, new tools, and a deep sense of authenticity—safe, embraced, and without needing permission to be you.
Why Specialist Support Matters
Navigating the intersection of neurodivergence and midlife requires more than standard talk therapy; it requires a specialist who understands the high-achieving ND profile. Standard approaches often fail because they overlook this intersection:
- The CBT Gap: Traditional CBT can feel like gaslighting when your issue is genuine sensory overwhelm, not just “negative thoughts.”
- The HRT Gap: Hormone Replacement Therapy is a vital tool, but it may interact with your neurodivergence differently than it does for others. Without neuro-affirming support, you may still feel like you are “slipping.”
- The Burnout Misdiagnosis: You aren’t just “depressed.” You are likely experiencing Autistic, ADHD and AuDHD Burnout, which requires radical rest and sensory regulation, not just “positive thinking.”
- Bypassing the “Noise”: Traditional talk therapy can be overstimulating for a nervous system already on “High Alert.” WE aim to work at the speed of your nervous system, focusing on stabilisation first.
The Midlife Umbrella: When the Mask No Longer Fits
For many neurodivergent women, midlife is the ultimate umbrella for a profound identity shift. It is the season where the “mask” finally breaks. The strategies that served you in your 20s and 30s—over-functioning, hyper-vigilance, suppressing your sensory needs—are no longer sustainable.
What the world calls a “midlife crisis” is, for us, a necessary reckoning. It is the moment your nervous system demands that you stop performing and start belonging to yourself.
A Sensory-Safe Space to Be Yourself
I understand that starting Therapy can feel like another “task” on an already overflowing plate. This space is a sanctuary from those demands, designed to be neuro-inclusive:
- Movement is Welcome: If you need to pace, fidget, or move to help regulate your system during our session, please do so.
- No Pressure for Social Norms: We are here to do deep work, not to perform. If eye contact feels overstimulating or if you find it easier to speak while looking away, that is fully supported.
- Holding the Thread: If you experience brain fog or lose your train of thought, I will hold the space for you. There is no rush to “perform” or be articulate. We work with where you are, exactly as you are.
- Tending to the “Static”: We often begin by identifying the “internal static”—that buzzing feeling of overwhelm and spikes in hormonal anxiety—and using somatic tools to turn down the volume before we even start talking.
- No Gaslighting: Your experience of sensory pain and the feeling of “losing yourself” is real. We work with these realities, not against them.
- Collaborative Pace: If you are in burnout, we don’t push for “breakthroughs”—we focus on stabilisation and safety first.
- A Neuro-Hormonal Roadmap: We don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach. We map your sessions around your energy fluctuations, sensory capacity, and where you are in your hormonal transition.

Holding the Lantern
I believe that what is often labelled as a “symptom” in perimenopause is actually your authentic self trying to break free from decades of masking. This season of life is an invitation to shed the layers that no longer serve you. To be held for the first time, safe, nurtured, healed and wise for your next stage of life.
I don’t see you as a “patient” to be fixed, but as a complex, brilliant individual navigating a profound biological and spiritual transition.
“My role is to hold a nurturing space to support your rebirthing process as you
find your way back to your true, authentic nature.”
Possible Outcomes: What Rebirth Looks Like
The goal of this work isn’t to return to the person you were, but to reach a state of Sensory Autonomy.
- Somatic Regulation: A nervous system that feels “quiet” rather than “electrified.”
- Neuro-Hormonal Literacy: The ability to map your moods to your hormonal shifts, replacing shame with a strategic, compassionate plan.
- Integration of the “Orphaned Self”: An end to the internal conflict between who you were told to be and who you actually are.
- Authenticity: Moving through the world unmasked, with the tools to advocate for your needs without apology.
- The New Self: Emerging not as a “fixed” version of your old self, but as a more integrated, empowered, and authentic version of who you are now.
Why Choose Me: UKCP Psychotherapist & Clinical Supervisor
I provide a space where you don’t have to explain your neurodivergence—it is already understood. I specialise in the “Double Burden” of hormonal transition and neurodivergent identity, offering a trauma-informed, clinical perspective that honours your lived experience.
Bridging the Clinical and the Energetic
I offer a rare, neuro-affirming bridge between clinical rigour and energetic relief. This is not “standard menopause coaching”; it is a clinical recalibration of your nervous system.
Many neurodivergent women are “highly verbal” but “somatically disconnected.” We can talk about our trauma for hours without our nervous system actually shifting. I use Energy Psychotherapy (EFT & Matrix Reimprinting) because it bypasses the “thinking brain” and speaks directly to the autonomic nervous system and the bio-field, where the “Sensory Burn” is actually held. We stop trying to force a neurotypical “fix” on a neurodivergent transition; we work with your brain, not against it.
Specialist Expertise
- Clinical & Energetic Authority: With 20 years of experience, 14 years as a UKCP-accredited psychotherapist, and 30 years as a holistic practitioner, I ensure our work is grounded in high ethical standards while staying open to profound energetic shifts.
- Neuro-Hormonal Informed Specialism: I stay at the forefront of research into how oestrogen depletion affects dopamine and norepinephrine in the ADHD and Autistic brain.
- Complex Trauma & Narcissistic Abuse (PNSD): Specialist Recovery for PTSD and C-PTSD, addressing the biological and neurological disruptions caused by long-term abuse and the “Missing Piece” of late-life neurodivergent realisation.
- Inner Child & Subconscious Healing Specialism: Over 14 years of dedicated experience in reclaiming the “Traumatised Child.” I may use hypno-psychotherapy or somatic tools to clear the subconscious shame associated with decades of masking.
- Trauma-Informed Framework: My practice is built on five pillars: Safety, Trustworthiness, Choice, Collaboration, and Empowerment, to restore the agency trauma and “the change” may have taken away.

THE FIRST STEP: Your Intake Formulation & Clinical Mapping
Taking the first step toward neuro-hormonal support can feel daunting, especially if you have previously felt dismissed, pathologised, or misdiagnosed during major hormonal shifts. To ensure you feel fully supported from the start, I don’t offer 15-minute discovery calls. Your intersectional history is too complex for a quick chat.
Instead, your therapeutic journey begins seamlessly inside Container 1, where our first 90 minutes are explicitly dedicated to a comprehensive, deep-dive Neuro-Hormonal Mapping Assessment & Clinical Formulation.
What this dedicated space offers:
- A Gentle, Unmasked Arrival: We start slowly. You do not need a perfect script or a logical timeline. You will have the floor to share your lived experience of brain fog, executive exhaustion, and sensory shifts.
- Physiological Mapping: Because neurodivergence and hormonal trauma live deeply in the nervous system, we actively map your history and unique biology at a safe, regulated pace.
- Bespoke Clinical Direction: Before we finish our first session, I will share my intuitive and clinical reflections on your neuro-hormonal blueprint. This co-creates the diagnostic foundation that anchors your remaining 5 fortnightly integration sessions.
- Leaving Regulated: We never end a session while your system is in high distress. We always reserve dedicated time at the close of our mapping to ground and seal the work, ensuring you feel steady as you return to your day.

Professional Practice Agreement, Financial Policy & Clinical Safety
To maintain the professional integrity and clinical focus of our work, the following terms apply to all consultations, single sessions, and therapy blocks. Please click and read before booking your assessment:
1. Container Commitment & Fixed-Term Contracts
- The Therapeutic Container: The efficacy of neuro-somatic and clinical therapy—particularly in recovery from complex trauma, C-PTSD, and neuro-affirming support—relies on consistent momentum and the cumulative effect of our work together. Therefore, all therapy pathways at Awaken Inner Sense are structured as fixed-term, 3-month clinical containers (6 sessions).
- Contractual Commitment: By booking your container, you are entering into a binding professional contract for the full duration of the pathway.
- The Initial Step: Container 1 includes a mandatory 90-minute clinical formulation and intake processing. Because this assessment is fully integrated into the 6-session treatment plan, you cannot purchase it as a standalone service.
2. Professional Fee Agreement & Instalments
- Payment Integrity: To honour the depth and preparation this specialist work requires, fees are payable in full upon booking. For your convenience, flexible, interest-free payment options—including Klarna, Clearpay, and PayPal Pay in 3—are available dynamically at checkout, allowing you to choose an instalment schedule that suits you. (Klarna and Clearpay are unregulated credit agreements. Borrowing more than you can afford or paying late may negatively impact your financial status and ability to obtain credit. 18+, UK residents only. Subject to status. Ts&Cs and late fees apply.)
- Contractual Obligation: Choosing an instalment plan is a structured fee-splitting arrangement designed to make the investment manageable; it is not a pay-as-you-go option. If you choose to discontinue your therapy prior to completing the 12-week framework, you remain contractually responsible for the remaining balance of the contract.
- Clinical Triage Exception: If, during the initial 90-minute assessment, either the practitioner or the client determines that this pathway is not clinically appropriate or safe, the contract will be dissolved. A prorated refund for the 5 unused integration sessions will be issued, minus a standalone clinical assessment and administration fee of £290.
3. Attendance, Fixed Calendar Rotation & Cancellations
- Exclusive Slot Allocation: Your fortnightly 90-minute slot is locked exclusively into my clinical rotation and cannot be offered to anyone else. Once a session is confirmed, it is completely fixed.
- Strict Non-Cancellation Policy: I operate a strict no-refund, no-cancellation, and no-postponement policy. Sessions cannot be moved, credited, rolled over, or refunded under any circumstances.
- Missed Sessions: This fixed structure is not an administrative rule; it is a clinical container explicitly designed to help your nervous system settle into a reliable rhythm of safety. Any missed, forgotten, or unattended sessions within your container are charged at the full rate and automatically count as an active session. All fixed containers must be completed within 14 weeks of commencement.
4. Specialist Ad-Hoc Sessions & Maintenance Policy
- Ad-hoc sessions are reserved exclusively for clients who have fully completed previous container work and are offered at my clinical discretion for ongoing monthly maintenance and check-ins. Because somatic trauma work relies on active nervous system tracking, if you need a break longer than 4 weeks, we will officially close the active container, and any future work will begin through a new commitment block.
5. Honouring The Ending Process
- Because our work is deep, neuro-somatic, and relational, the ending process is as important as the beginning. We intentionally build a closing phase into your container to keep your nervous system settled and fully integrate your therapeutic gains before we conclude our contract.
6. Professional Ethics, Privacy & Safeguarding
- Professional Standards: I operate in strict accordance with UKCP ethical guidelines and UK law. A UKCP-accredited supervisor regularly reviews my clinical practice to maintain the highest standards of safety and care.
- Data Protection: I comply with GDPR and store all client records securely.
- Crisis & Safeguarding: This is a specialist psychological recovery service, not an emergency crisis line. Confidentiality is maintained at all times unless there is a significant, immediate risk of harm to yourself or others. If you are currently experiencing an emergency, fear for your physical safety, or are in an acute mental health crisis, please get in touch with your local emergency services (999 in the UK) or your local Crisis Line.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
View here
Do I need a formal diagnosis of ADHD or Autism to work with you?
No. Many women in this age group were missed by the system decades ago. If you resonate with the traits, or if your “mask” has only started to slip during perimenopause, you are welcome here. We focus on your experience, not a label.
What exactly is Energy Psychotherapy?
Think of it as “acupuncture without the needles” combined with psychological insight. We use precise somatic protocols to regulate the nervous system, clearing the emotional charge of past trauma without the need for years of repetitive talk therapy.
Is this a replacement for HRT?
Not necessarily. Many of my clients use HRT to manage physical symptoms while using our sessions to manage the neurological and identity shifts. I work alongside your medical choices, providing the emotional and energetic support that medication alone cannot provide.
Can we work together if I am on HRT?
Absolutely. My work complements medical intervention by addressing the psychological, sensory, and energetic aspects of this transition that medication alone cannot reach.
Is this only for women?
While my current focus is on the “Unmasked Brain” during the perimenopausal transition, my practice is open to all neurodivergent adults and anyone navigating the intersection of neurodiversity and significant life transitions.
Why 90 minutes for the first session?
A standard 50-minute session can feel rushed for a neurodivergent brain. 90 minutes gives us the “buffer time” to settle in, regulate your nervous system, and dive deep without the anxiety of the clock ticking down.
From Survival to Authenticity
The transition through menopause is often framed as an ending. In this space, I frame it as the “Emergence”. By the end of our work, the goal is not to return to the “high-masking” person you were before. The goal is to become the woman who no longer needs the mask—someone who understands her brain, honours her sensory needs, and moves through the world with a new, grounded authority.
The “Great Unmasking” of perimenopause does not have to be a crisis; it can be a profound homecoming. This is the moment you can stop trying to “fix” a brain that was never broken and begin nourishing the one you actually have.
For years, you may have used your intellect and your energy to “pass”—navigating a neurotypical world by hiding your struggles and meeting external expectations. As perimenopause shifts your internal chemistry, that ability to mask often falls away.
“Instead of trying to force the mask back on,
we can work together to build a life that actually fits”.
This is a space to move away from “surviving the shift” and toward a way of living that honours your neurodivergence, your hormonal health, and your need for a different pace. You have spent a lifetime holding it all together. If that is no longer working, it isn’t a failure—it’s an invitation to live more authentically.
This is your Rebirth. Let’s begin.
A Final Note on This Season of Change
I don’t see you as a “patient” to be fixed, but as a complex, brilliant individual navigating a profound biological and spiritual transition.
What is often labelled as a “symptom” of perimenopause is frequently your “authentic self trying to break free” from decades of masking.
This season of life is “an invitation” to shed the layers that no longer serve you.
It is a time for clearing the static so you can hear your own voice again.
My role is to hold the lantern and provide the clinical safety you need while you find your way back to your true nature.
“You have spent a lifetime taking care of the world. This space is for taking care of you.”
