HYPNO-PSYCHOTHERAPY / HYPNOTHERAPY ONLINE
Hypno-psychotherapy is a mind-body therapy that integrates hypnotherapy and psychotherapy to assist individuals in addressing a variety of emotional, physical, and psychological challenges.
Hypno-psychotherapy is particularly helpful for individuals who have difficulty remembering past events or are not used to talking about their feelings. It can also benefit individuals who have experienced trauma or suppressed or repressed experiences or emotions. By combining hypnosis and psychotherapy, hypno-psychotherapy can assist individuals in understanding the underlying causes of their issues and developing the skills and strategies required to overcome them.
Hypnotherapy is a type of therapy that utilises hypnosis to assist individuals in accessing their subconscious mind. At the same time, psychotherapy is a form of talk therapy that helps individuals explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. In hypno-psychotherapy, the therapist uses hypnosis to help the client relax and access their subconscious mind, allowing them to explore and work through their emotional and psychological issues in a secure and supportive environment.
Hypnotherapy allows the conscious mind to relax safely by inducing relaxation or an altered state of consciousness, allowing subconscious or conscious memories to surface gently. The therapist closely monitors the client’s pace using subconscious and unconscious cues. Hypno-psychotherapy involves asking the client psychotherapeutic questions while the client is relaxed to understand the causes and patterns of the underlying problem.
The conscious mind protects a person from suppressed emotions and memories surfacing. It does this so that the person can function normally in society. They remain hidden if the person does not know how to deal with suppressed emotions or events.
Hypno-psychotherapy can be used to treat anxiety, depression and other emotional and psychological issues, including anxiety, depression, phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other mental health conditions. It is typically facilitated by a trained hypno-psychotherapist who creates a safe and supportive environment for clients to explore their emotions and experiences. The therapist may use various techniques and methods, such as guided imagery, relaxation techniques, and cognitive-behavioural therapy, to help clients overcome their issues.
In addition to the benefits mentioned earlier, hypno-psychotherapy can help clients improve their self-esteem, develop more positive self-talk, and enhance their overall well-being. It can also help clients improve their relationships with others, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve their overall quality of life.
To understand the differences between the conscious, subconscious, and unconscious, hypnosis, hypnotherapy, and hypno-psychotherapy, I have listed a brief description below:
WHAT IS THE CONSCIOUS, SUBCONSCIOUS AND UNCONSCIOUS MIND?
The mind model has three levels – conscious, subconscious, and unconscious.
The conscious mind defines our thoughts, actions, and awareness.
The subconscious mind refers to information that we are unaware of, but that has the potential to influence us. It acts as a filter, ensuring that our brain is not overloaded with input from our senses. It stores information that is not consciously processed but can be accessed later for processing.
The unconscious mind is a part of the mind that automatically stores all repressed thoughts and feelings, including wishes, desires, painful or traumatic memories, and emotions and is not available for recall or introspection. These thoughts and feelings can manifest in everyday and unexpected situations, often caused by a trigger.
WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?
Stage hypnosis is the use of altered states of consciousness and trance to give the effect of the hypnotherapist having some ‘power or control’ over the subject. The subject agrees beforehand to allow the hypnotist to use hypnotic techniques to suggest specific outcomes. The client controls when and how subconscious/unconscious information is revealed in therapy. The process occurs within the context of what the client wishes to heal and is contained safely.
Hypnosis uses a particular language, with or without music, to distract the conscious mind, thus allowing the client to access an altered state of consciousness to introduce relaxation and change. Hypnosis is a natural state of altered awareness that varies from light to deep states of relaxation. Most of the change will be at the behavioural level (subconscious), such as sleeping problems or stopping smoking, and the therapist will devise suggestions and spend most of the time talking whilst the client is listening in a deep trance.
WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic application of hypnosis to treat and alleviate a wide range of medical and psychological symptoms at a deeper level (unconscious) through positive suggestions made to the unconscious mind. Hypnotherapy uses relaxation techniques (hypnosis) to relax the conscious mind safely, allowing the subconscious/unconscious to surface. Hypnosis and hypnotherapy concentrate on the solution to the client’s issues without much emphasis on or understanding how the problem was created.
Working with the unconscious mind allows you to access a vast reservoir of untapped potential, strengths, knowledge, and resources. The conscious mind will remain active and alert throughout this process, albeit slightly relaxed. Only what is relevant and ready for healing will be brought to the surface by the unconscious. You have complete control over what emerges and how quickly it does so. It will do so in a way that you can safely manage, process, and integrate. The mental processes that can occur in any of these states of consciousness have the potential to be far more powerful in effecting change than working with the conscious mind alone.
Clinical Hypnotherapy uses hypnotherapy to effect therapeutic changes for clients with specific ailments.
Psychotherapy is an interactive process in which the therapist will ask questions and, through verbal and non-verbal communication from the client, understand how they run their problem or create their map of reality. To understand how these problems arose, psychotherapy examines the client’s history and upbringing to gain insight into crucial developmental stages, such as relationships with parents, siblings, schooling, and friends.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A HYPNO-PSYCHOTHERAPY SESSION?
The first consultation (1 hour) is an initial assessment to determine if the therapist fits you. During this session, the therapist evaluates their skills and expertise to address your specific needs. If the therapist feels that another professional may be better suited to assist you, they will provide appropriate referrals.
Additionally, the consultation allows the therapist to gather essential information about the reasons for seeking therapy, your history related to the issues, any pertinent medical information, and other relevant details. During this session, the Therapist will discuss your goals, outcomes, length and frequency of sessions and whether therapy is likely to be short or long-term
Finally, the consultation is an opportunity for both the client and the therapist to assess if they are a good fit and can form a therapeutic relationship for deeper work.
Hypno-psychotherapy is a highly individualized form of therapy that can be tailored to meet each client’s unique needs. The therapist may use various techniques and methods, such as guided imagery, relaxation techniques, cognitive-behavioural therapy, and other forms of talk therapy to help clients overcome their issues. The therapist may also work with the client to develop coping strategies and problem-solving skills to assist them in managing their emotions and behaviours more effectively.
During a Hypno-Psychotherapy session, the therapist uses hypnosis and hypnotherapy tools to gently relax the client and gently access the subconscious or unconscious. The therapist will use psychotherapy while the client is in hypnosis to gain insights and understanding of the problem and help the client process, heal and integrate.
While in hypnosis, you can hear everything that is said to you and maintain control, even though you are relaxed. Nobody can be hypnotised against their will in a therapeutic setting, and even when hypnotised, people can reject inappropriate suggestions. Hypnotherapy cannot be ‘performed’ on a client. It is considered “active” therapy because the client participates and interacts with the therapist.
Hypnotherapy does not erase memories; instead, it assists you in resolving trauma and unresolved emotions or deep-rooted beliefs associated with past events, allowing you to resolve the event so that it does not impact you in the same way.
A typical Hypno-Psychotherapy session lasts about an hour and is entirely private. The initial consultation session is 1.5 hours to obtain a thorough case history and allow the client to gain trust and confidence in the therapist. A sense of safety, comfort, and security with the therapist aids in the induction of a hypnotic trance.
The duration of subsequent treatments is determined by the problem or symptom and the individual’s circumstances. Depending on the client’s requirements, a session can be 1 hour, 1.5 hours, or 2 hours. Longer sessions may be helpful if the client wishes to spend some of the therapy talking through issues before going into hypnosis.
If you are interested in trying hypno-psychotherapy, it is important to research and find a qualified therapist with the necessary training and experience to meet your needs. You may want to ask for referrals from your doctor or other healthcare professionals, or you can search for a therapist online. It is also essential to have a consultation session with the therapist before beginning treatment to ensure that you feel comfortable with their approach and that they fit your needs well.
To become a qualified hypno-psychotherapist, individuals must undergo specialised training and certification. This typically involves completing a rigorous training program with classroom instruction and hands-on experience working with clients. Certification requirements vary depending on the country and region in which the therapist practices.
WHAT ARE THE CONTRA-INDICATIONS OF HYPNO-PSYCHOTHERAPY?
Although Hypno-psychotherapy is beneficial for many individuals, it is important to consider certain contraindications, including:
- Individuals suffering from severe mental health conditions like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder may not be suitable candidates for Hypno-Psychotherapy due to difficulty distinguishing reality from past-life memories.
- Individuals suffering from substance abuse or addiction issues may find that the therapy triggers cravings or other addictive behaviours.
- The therapy requires a level of openness and willingness to explore past-life memories and emotions, and if the individual is resistant or closed off, the therapy may not be effective.
- Individuals with certain physical health conditions, such as epilepsy or a history of seizures, may not be suitable candidates for Hypno-Psychotherapy as the therapy involves hypnosis and altered states of consciousness that may trigger seizures or other physical symptoms.
- Individuals with limited cognitive or linguistic abilities may not be suitable, as the therapy requires a certain level of cognitive and linguistic ability to understand and engage in the process.
It is important to discuss any contraindications or concerns with a qualified and experienced practitioner before engaging in Hypno-Psychotherapy. A skilled practitioner will be able to help determine whether this type of therapy is a suitable option and will provide alternative options if necessary.
HYPNO-PSYCHOTHERAPY WITH ME:
Hypno-psychotherapy uses both psychotherapy and hypnotherapy tools, unlike a trained hypnotherapist who only uses hypnotherapy tools. Hypno-psychotherapy allows one to explore deeper-rooted and more complex issues in a safer and more contained way to aid healing, integration, and access to wounded or traumatised experiences without the client being re-traumatised.
MY PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC APPROACH:
My approach to therapy is holistic, transformative, and multidimensional, incorporating integrative and psychodynamic elements. I believe in outcome-focused psychotherapy, which emphasises setting specific goals for treatment and regularly monitoring progress towards those goals. This approach involves collaborating with clients to understand their hopes and develop a plan to achieve those goals, using various techniques and interventions to assist them while focusing on achieving specific outcomes.
In addition, I integrate elements from different schools of psychotherapy, such as cognitive-behavioural, humanistic, and psychodynamic approaches, to address the emotional, behavioural, and cognitive aspects of my clients’ needs. This integrative approach provides a comprehensive and flexible framework that can be adapted to each client’s unique circumstances and preferences, allowing for a more personalised and effective therapeutic experience.
Furthermore, I also incorporate psychodynamic principles into my practice, which focuses on exploring the unconscious mind and its influence on a person’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. This approach, rooted in the theories of Sigmund Freud, emphasises the role of early childhood experiences and the dynamics of interpersonal relationships in shaping an individual’s psychological functioning. By bringing unconscious conflicts and patterns to the surface, psychodynamic therapy aims to promote greater self-awareness and a deeper understanding of the underlying factors contributing to the client’s difficulties.
My holistic, transformative, and multidimensional approach to therapy integrates outcome-focused, integrative, and psychodynamic elements, among other elements, to provide clients with a comprehensive and personalised therapeutic experience aimed at achieving positive and lasting change.

TESTIMONIALS:
“Karyn has helped me with areas of my life I could not resolve. I found Hypnotherapy to be an easy, powerful tool, so very different from what I had seen on television and not at all like that. I was amazed at how relaxed I felt even after the treatments and how far I have come in such a short space.” Cumbria *
“Karyn was recommended to me via a friend, but I couldn’t travel up from London to see her for a couple of hours of treatment. She recommended Hypnotherapy via Skype; I must say I was intrigued to see if it would work as I had never tried hypnosis before, let alone on Skype. Well, I can’t believe how quickly Karyn got me to relax, and before I knew it, I was accessing what I wanted to. After the session, I felt so relaxed and calm. My life has changed remarkably since that session. I feel so free and light and can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you, Karyn, for such a blessed experience.” London *
“I have always been torn between my past experiences and trying to move on with life. I struggled for years and seemed to get nowhere. I decided to see Karyn for Hypnotherapy. She told me that as I was ready to do this work, the changes would be significant and that I would notice the impact of the work almost immediately. I was rather sceptical. However, within the first session, mainly talking about my history, I felt much better, like a weight was lifted. I had never had hypnosis before and felt I could become very relaxed and comfortable quickly. Karyn explained what I would experience, and I felt at ease immediately, knowing I was in safe hands. Within a few sessions, my whole life changed. My past experiences no longer control me; I feel more whole and complete. I feel excited about all the possibilities my life is presenting to me as a result. Thank you so much, special lady.” Cumbria *
“Thanks, Karyn, you have helped me so much. As a result of our sessions, I have realised my next step in looking after myself and how to seek the support I need. If it weren’t for seeing you, I would still be trapped in my old patterns, but now I can see my life is opening up. Thank you so much. Blessing and love.” Lancashire *
“Karyn has helped my 90-year-old mother with her eating problems. She was very ill and would not eat anything. Karyn used Hypnotherapy to help reintroduce her to food, and her appetite improved significantly. I found her to be very professional, caring and knowledgeable. Even our doctors are impressed with her work on my mother. Grasmere *
