PSYCHOTHERAPY ONLINE
Psychotherapy offers support for mental health challenges, emotional and physical distress, trauma-related issues, negative behaviours, outdated beliefs and patterns, and various other concerns. Psychotherapy aims to assist individuals in comprehending, healing, and integrating deeply rooted issues that shape their lives. Clients may uncover new methods to address and heal themselves throughout this process, freeing themselves from the influence of these behaviours or emotions. Psychotherapy aids clients in understanding their established but unhelpful childhood strategies, deeper wounds, and beliefs that no longer serve them in managing their daily lives. This may encompass significant emotional trauma, inadequate parenting, or other difficulties. Psychotherapy collaborates with clients in the present while acknowledging and addressing past influences.
WHAT IS PSYCHOTHERAPY
Psychotherapy is a treatment method that involves the exploration, healing, and integration of deeply ingrained issues or core beliefs. It is a collaborative process in which the therapist assists the client in discovering and understanding the underlying root causes of patterns, which leads to new solutions for healing and integration and the development of new coping methods.
Psychotherapists use various techniques based on experiential relationship building, dialogue, communication, the unconscious, and behaviour change to improve their clients’ mental health or group relationships.
Psychotherapy is a much more interactive process in which the therapist will, for example, ask a question and understand how the client runs their problem or creates their map of reality through verbal and nonverbal communication. It will examine and investigate the client’s history and upbringing to gain insight into critical developmental stages, such as relationships with parents and siblings, schooling, and friends, to understand how the problems arose. If the client is willing to talk about past events, missing stages may be revisited and learned, which will help alleviate the problem.

CAN PSYCHOTHERAPY HELP ME?
Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy, is a treatment for assisting people experiencing/suffering from or who have experienced/suffered from emotional or mental health problems. By providing support, problem-solving skills, and improved coping strategies, psychotherapy can help with depression, anxiety, relationship problems, grief, stress management, and so much more. It can help with more severe issues such as eating disorders, abuse-related issues, trauma-related issues, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Psychotherapy is a process that requires time and commitment to achieve desired results. It is most effective when the person seeking assistance is motivated and engaged in the process. The therapist and the person in therapy work together to identify and change troubling patterns of thought and behaviour. The client is responsible and accountable for implementing the changes that result from each therapy session.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY?
Counselling is a talking therapy that provides a safe and supportive environment for clients to express their emotions, issues and problems. Counselling benefits those who already have the resources to resolve their issues by talking it out with someone objective and uninvolved, such as friends and family members. On the other hand, counselling does not allow the client to delve deeply into the emotional root causes of the problem to find solutions.
Psychotherapy, on the other hand, provides the same service as counselling. However, the therapist is trained to work with deeper emotional and psychological patterns (mental health) that usually stem from the past, such as childhood, birth or pre-birth or trauma-related issues. In these situations, the client lacks the resources to move through or resolve the problems, becoming stuck in patterns that repeat themselves. Psychotherapy allows for a more in-depth examination of these patterns and the underlying causes influencing the client’s current life. Psychotherapy seeks to provide resources, Healing and integration of these patterns, allowing the client to forward with a new set of healthier ‘tools’ / coping strategies that are more relevant to the here and now.
WHAT HAPPENS IN A PSYCHOTHERAPY SESSION?
The first consultation (1 hour) is an initial assessment to determine if the therapist fits you. During this session, the therapist evaluates their skills and expertise to address your specific needs. If the therapist feels that another professional may be better suited to assist you, they will provide appropriate referrals.
Additionally, the consultation allows the therapist to gather essential information about the reasons for seeking therapy, your history related to the issues, any pertinent medical information, and other relevant details. During this session, the Therapist will discuss your goals, outcomes, length and frequency of sessions and whether therapy is likely to be short or long-term
Finally, the consultation is an opportunity for both the client and the therapist to assess if they are a good fit and can form a therapeutic relationship for deeper work.
In a psychotherapy session, the therapist and client work together to explore the client’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviours and identify patterns that may be causing distress or interfering with their daily life. The specific activities or techniques used in a psychotherapy session can vary depending on the type of therapy used and the individual’s needs and goals.
Typically, a psychotherapy session will involve the client talking about their experiences and the therapist asking questions to help them explore their thoughts and feelings more deeply. The therapist may also provide guidance, support, and feedback to help the client develop new coping skills and strategies for managing their emotions and behaviours.
The therapist may employ various techniques and interventions during a psychotherapy session, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy, which focuses on identifying and replacing negative thought patterns with more positive ones, or psychodynamic therapy, which focuses on exploring unconscious thoughts and feelings to gain insight into past experiences and relationships.
HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO BE IN THERAPY?
The length and frequency of psychotherapy sessions can differ depending on the individual’s needs and goals. Sessions may be scheduled weekly or biweekly. Because each person is unique and comes into treatment at different stages of healing, development, and so on, you should expect a minimum of six sessions (once a week at first). However, depending on the nature of the issues you wish to address, this can range from six sessions to 1-2 years.
We will periodically review your goals, make any necessary adjustments, and ensure we work within a reasonable time frame. However, this can change as we uncover more profound layers of healing that were not visible during the consultation session.
MY PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC APPROACH
My approach to therapy is holistic, transformative, and multidimensional, incorporating integrative and psychodynamic elements. I believe in outcome-focused psychotherapy, which emphasises setting specific goals for treatment and regularly monitoring progress towards those goals. This approach involves collaborating with clients to understand their hopes and develop a plan to achieve those goals, using various techniques and interventions to assist them while focusing on achieving specific outcomes.
In addition, I integrate elements from different schools of psychotherapy, such as cognitive-behavioural, humanistic, and psychodynamic approaches, to address the emotional, behavioural, and cognitive aspects of my clients’ needs. This integrative approach provides a comprehensive and flexible framework that can be adapted to each client’s unique circumstances and preferences, allowing for a more personalised and effective therapeutic experience.
Furthermore, I also incorporate psychodynamic principles into my practice, which focuses on exploring the unconscious mind and its influence on a person’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. This approach, rooted in the theories of Sigmund Freud, emphasises the role of early childhood experiences and the dynamics of interpersonal relationships in shaping an individual’s psychological functioning. By bringing unconscious conflicts and patterns to the surface, psychodynamic therapy aims to promote greater self-awareness and a deeper understanding of the underlying factors contributing to the client’s difficulties.
My holistic, transformative, and multidimensional approach to therapy integrates outcome-focused, integrative, and psychodynamic elements, among other elements, to provide clients with a comprehensive and personalised therapeutic experience aimed at achieving positive and lasting change.
